How To Handle Frustration In Your Network Marketing Business
Have you ever felt overwhelmed in your business or discouraged because you felt your results did not match your efforts? What about just plain angry? You log into your blog and all your content has disappeared…you’re in the middle of recording a presentation and Firefox crashes…you’re on the phone with customer “support” for an hour, but the “support” is just as good as that of a cheap bra…or better yet, you can’t reach support.
It seems like every time you try to accomplish something there’s an issue, a mountain you have to climb. Does any of that sound familiar? What you’re feeling my friend is called Frustration with a capital “F” and I’m gonna tell you how to handle it.
I’ve had every one of these things happen and more. In fact, every home business owner has or will encounter these problems at some time. You can’t stop frustrating events from happening no more than you can stop rain from falling.
But here’s what you can do, you can learn to handle frustration instead of frustration handling you. When frustration is handling you, its buddy anger is not far off. Frustration combined with anger can really do a number on you if you’re not careful. They’ll make you throw up your hands in defeat, screaming “I quit”, but here’s how you get the victory over frustration:
6 Ways To Handle Frustration
1. Step Back
Think about boxers for a moment. They don’t just slug it out for 12 rounds back to back, but in between each round, they take a break. They go back to their corner and get rejuvenated, they sip water, they take deep breaths, they get their wounds tended to, they get advice from their corner, and then they go fight the next round.
So relax, take some deep breaths, come out of your home office and be rejuvenated. Be rejuvenated by spending time with your family, taking a walk, going to the gym, listening to music, or whatever works for you. I love to listen to classical music. There’s something so powerful about it that elevates my mind to another place. Remember that balance is the key to life.
2. Reassess The Situation
Why are you frustrated? Are you trying to do too much at once? Do you have unrealistic expectations? Frustration is often the result of a culmination of many things and not merely one event.
3. Ask yourself, “What’s working in this situation?”
Though it feels like nothing is working, if you’ll look closely, you’ll find at least one thing that’s going right. Now, how can you improve it? By asking this question, you’ve taken yourself out of the negative mindset of “it’s hopeless” and are back to focusing on the positive.
4. Keep a Journal of Your Accomplishments
Write down everything you accomplish in a journal, big or small. If you do it in a monthly format you’ll see all that you’ve accomplished in just one month. You may surprise yourself by how much you’ve done. If you realize there’s not much there, it may open your eyes to the fact that you’re procrastinating more than working or that you’re going in too many directions and need to focus more.
Hopefully, they’ll be many items on your list. Then you’ll notice that although it doesn’t seem like it, you’re actually moving forward.
5. Remove all Distractions & Simplify
There’s so much noise on the internet clamoring for our attention. When you’re trying to solve a problem, you can get so engulfed in finding the solution that you add unnecessary clutter, more “noise”. You’re clicking on every ad and button because you think it maybe the solution.
“Easy ways to run your home business”, “Get more traffic”, “Blog in a box”, “Sneeze and make $18,940 in 2”, etc., etc. It’s all noise and a trap to waste your time. You’ll be even further from the solution than before, but when you’re frustrated by how slow the hard work process is going, you’ll be tempted by these types of offers.
Don’t allow your focus to be broken. Where focus goes, energy flows. Energy brings power and power brings progress. Stay the course. Chances are you’re already on the right path, just stick to it.
6. Continue Taking Action
I thought you said to step back. I did, but after you’ve been rejuvenated, you’ve reassessed the situation, you’ve found what’s working for you, you’ve journal-ed your progress and removed all distractions, guess what? It’s time to get back in the ring.
Serious frustration with a problem can make you want to do everything to avoid that situation and procrastination can set in. Don’t fall into this trap. One step at a time, keep moving forward and you’ll not only handle frustration, you’ll MASTER it.
Have you thrown your hands up in defeat? Have you quit or are close to quitting network marketing because you think it’s too hard? I’ve got news for you: Network Marketing is not hard. It’s not hard when you’re literally handed the key to success and here it is:

So true, Oliver. Frustration gives you tunnel vision so you are only looking at the negative.

Thanks for your valuable comment Tristam. There is definitely an opportunity to learn something new in every challenge we face.
Fontella,
I like stepping back after a day or so. What this does is allow your subconscious to work the problems and issues and creativity flows from that.

I agree Gary. Sometimes we’re too close to the problem to solve it and taking a break will indeed give fresh insight and perspective. Thanks for dropping by and sharing.
