Before we get into article marketing for SEO, in an earlier post, we talked about the two distinct forms of article marketing strategies and I pointed out which article marketing strategy is dead and which one still delivers massive results.

Now, let me go a little deeper into the strategy that works, which of course is article marketing for SEO.

In article marketing for SEO, your only goal is to get a ton of backlinks, both quality and quantity pointing back to your original content, which will be posted on your blog.

Let me clarify this to avoid any confusion.

The goal with this strategy is not to get your spun articles (the ones you mass distribute using article submission software) to rank in the search engines.

Consider these articles little worker bees that go out and gather links for the Queen Bee (your blog).  These worker bees (backlinks) pointing back to your original content will cause it to rank high in Google’s search results.

So keep in mind, this is article marketing for SEO for your blog, not your articles.   So your goal is only to get backlinks to the content on your own site.

Great…let’s move on.

Now for those unfamiliar with the term SEO (Search Engine Optimization), don’t get scared.

It’s just a techie term that simply means you’re making sure that your content is found and ranked by the search engines.

There are two components to SEO — on-page and off-page, which we’ll cover in future blog posts.

But for now, let’s just discuss what a successful Article Marketing for SEO involves:

1. Good keywords
2. Proper anchor text
3. Good quality articles
4. Article distribution

1.) Choosing good keywords

Mess this up and your entire article marketing for SEO campaign is dead to right.  A good keyword is one that has high searches (many people are looking for it each month) and weak competition.

I used to say low competition, but I’ve ranked countless of times for keywords with competition in the double-digit millions.  So let me tell you from experience: Your only competition for any keyword are the 1st 10 results on the 1st page of Google. That’s it.  Don’t concern yourself with anything outside of that.

Now if you can spot holes in that competition, you can blow them out of the water every time.

The best keyword to rank for is a long tail keyword.  A long-tail keyword has 3-8 words and is very specific.

For example, network marketing is a broad short-tail keyword that you’d probably never rank for without a lot of time, energy and money invested.  Who wants to do that?  I don’t.

On the other hand, a keyword like best network marketing company, network marketing tools, or network marketing lead generation are all long-tail keywords that one could rank for far easier.

Not only that, since they’re so specific, you know exactly the kind of information that person will be looking for. Now, just give it to them.

2.) Proper anchor text

You must use your keywords in your anchor text.   If you want a page of your site to rank for “best network marketing company”, your anchor text shouldn’t be network marketing or network marketing company.  It must be the exact keyword.

Using anchor text like “click here” or “go here” does not help you at all.  Whether it’s on your site or in the resource box of an article directory, use good anchor text.

3.) Quality Articles

It’s key to start out with a quality article, especially since it’ll be posted to your blog first.  You don’t want your blog associated with garbage, do you?  Of course not.

In a quality article you’ll both educate and give value.  Not only will people be more inclined to opt-in to your offers, they’ll also be more inclined to engage with your blog by leaving comments, sharing your content and becoming repeat visitors.

4.)  Article Distribution

Lastly for a successful article marketing for SEO campaign, you need a ton of backlinks from many places — bookmarking sites, blogs, directories, etc.

You do this by using a spinner and article distribution service.   A spinner will give you unique article content to the tune of 100s of variations from just one article.  The article distribution service will then send those articles to thousands of places, thus giving you..you guessed it..BACKLINKS.
